Rock Solid Foundations – The Believer’s Authority 104

By:  GNGF Pastoral Board

Welcome to Grace and Glory Fellowship!

It doesn’t matter if you have been raised in church or you have absolutely no religious background.  Our purpose is to help you understand the “Rock Solid Foundations” of the Christian faith.  The title of this lesson is “The Believer’s Authority”.  We want to help you grow and mature in your understanding of all the authority and power Jesus “restored” to us as New Covenant believer’s in Christ.

I use the word “restored” because man’s dominion authority was relinquished to Satan in the Garden of Eden.  When God created man, He said in Genesis 1:26 (KJV) “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”

Adam and Eve were created by God and given dominion authority over the earth.  By choosing not to trust in the goodness of God, through their disobedience their eyes were opened.  They were deceived by Satan, (previously known as Lucifer), to disobey God’s instruction and not trust in His goodness  and chose to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.  When they disobeyed, their eyes were opened and they realized that they were naked.  The glory was no longer present in their lives the way it had been.  Not only had they lost the glory of God, but they gave up their dominion and authority to Satan who at that moment became the new ruler of the earth realm.  As a result, Satan became the god of this world. (2 Cor 4:4)

When Jesus came to this earth about 4,000 years later, He prophesied in Matthew 16:19 (NASB) “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”

The Bible explains to us that when Jesus died on the cross, He defeated the devil!  InColossians 2:15 (NLT) “In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the cross.”

Jesus also said in Revelation 1:18 (NLT) “I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”

The devil is a defeated foe!  He has been conquered and stripped of all his power and authority.  Jesus said:  Luke 10:19 (NKJV)  Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

The serpents and scorpions are a metaphor for demonic spirits.  (We do NOT literally pickup snakes.)  However, spiritually, Satan is often represented as a snake and we have been given power and authority over all the power of the devil.

God’s original intent when He created Adam and Eve was for them to live a heavenly, happy, abundant life, in the presence and glory of God, with dominion authority on this earth.

God’s Will is never sickness, disease, poverty, greed, pain, and suffering.  These things are NOT the WILL of God. God is a good God. David the psalmist, in the Old Testament said in Psalm 103:1-5 (NKJV)Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!   Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits.  Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,  Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

If God is a good God and it is NOT HIS WILL for sickness, disease, poverty, greed, pain, and suffering, and since Jesus stripped the devil of his power and authority, then why do we still have sickness, disease, poverty, greed, pain, and suffering in this earth?

The devil has been at destruction for a long time.  The devil has set up all the world’s systems.  These systems are in operation and are working against us and the Kingdom of God.  Man, in his own desires, perverted and pursued ways that are not God’s best plan.  JESUS HAS ALREADY WON.  He has conquered and defeated the devil.  However, the devil still inspires the thoughts and actions of people to practice evil.  For example, terrorist attacks, large organizations keeping people sick and diseased through false information, greed in corporate America, etc., etc.  The devil still influences people’s thoughts to accomplish his work in this earth.  He will also continue to attempt to blind you and me to the truth.

The devil still has influenceover people’s thoughts through lies, deception, and schemes of wickedness which work like fiery darts influencing the minds and actions of people who will fulfill his plans. (2 Cor 2:11)

The devil needs a human vessel to enact his plans just like God, the Holy Spirit, needs a human vessel to fulfill His work in this earth.  Ephesians 2:2 (NLT) says:  You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.”

However, when we receive Jesus Christ into our hearts as Lord and Savior the Bible says in Colossians 1:13 (KJV)  “He has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the Kingdom of his dear Son.”

We live in the Kingdom of God now!  Even though we physically did not go anywhere, when we believed in Christ, we were spiritually seated together with Christ in the heavenly realms with the same dominion authority and power He exercised while He walked upon this earthEphesians 2:5-6 (KJV) says:  “Even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)  And has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

We are seated in a heavenly place with dominion authority over all the schemes and lies of the devil.

When things happen, it is most often NOT an attack of the enemy.  It is life, it is our lack of knowledge, it is consequences from our behaviors and others actions.  DO not give the enemy more credit than he deserves.  Did Jesus finish it or not? Is the devil defeated or not?

How do I exercise my authority?  The first step in learning to exercise your authority is by learning to PUT ON what the Bible calls the new man in Christ.  By doing so, you will be able to extinguish the fiery darts or flaming arrows of the enemy.  We have many promises in the wonderful New Covenant and we must learn to renew our minds to the truth of God’s word and promised blessings.  Ephesians 4:23-25 (NKJV)  states: 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

The scriptures also encourage us to PUT ON spiritual armor.

Ephesians 6:11-17 (NASB) states:  “11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and havingput on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

We are getting dressed for a battle to enforce a victory that has already been won!  The warfare we have is with the lies, schemes and fiery darts of the devil. As stated before, the devil has been at destruction for a long time.  The devil has set up all the world’s systems.  These systems are in operation and are working against us and the Kingdom of God.  Therefore, we must renew our minds and access the mind of Christ in every circumstance and situation.  As we access the truth, we stand in that truth just like Jesus did when He said to Satan, “It is written!” (Matthew 4)

That is why a personal devotional life is so important.  You cannot stand in the victory and enforce the Word of God if you do not know what the Word says.

Many people and even Christians live life under the dominion of the devil even though he has been stripped by Jesus of all his power and authority.  They exist with a que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be attitude.  If disease or tragedy come into their life they just assume it must be the “will of God”.  They assume everything that happens to them is the “will of God” and therefore, they have no control over anything.  That is a bitter poisonous pill to swallow.  Then basically, that person is attributing rape, murder, poverty and diseases like Ebola to the “will of God.” This is not God!

Jesus said in John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

God originally designed for Adam and Eve to live a wonderfully, happy, blessed, abundant life in the Garden of Eden.  They relinquished their authority and as a result the earth became cursed.  Jesus gave us back the authority and we are in the process of restoring all things back unto the Father.  We are learning to bring into this realm all the promises and blessings God desires for His people according to His Word.  Eventually, we will live in a new heaven and a new earth.

In the meantime, we must enforce the victory and declare the Word of God which is the Will of God over every situation and circumstance in our lives.

We have attached some scriptures so you can pray the Word of God over every circumstance and situation in your life.  No more, if it be thy will prayers for sickness and disease.  His Word is His Will and we must enforce the victory by praying and speaking His Word in our lives.
